The Uffizi Gallery

Dansk guide i Firenze > Risultato della ricerca

The museum is famous worldwide for its breathtaking collection of paintings and ancient roman sculptures. A collection started by the Medici family, the most important dynasty in the city’s history, and enlarged during the centuries.

The 16th century building, housing the collection, has a surprising origin tightly linked to this family of art patrons which, through the exceptional intelligence of its last member, Anna Maria Louisa, managed to create an eternal bond between these wonderful pieces of art and the city of Florence.

The tour through the Uffizi Gallery gives you a great possibility of following the development in painting from the late Middle Ages, through Renaissance and up to the 17th century, enjoying works by some of the most famous artists of all times like Giotto, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael and Caravaggio. While you are admiring the master pieces, you’ll hear the stories and curiosities behind the works and the masters themselves.

Must sees are the beautiful “Tribune”, decorated to symbolize the cosmos celebrating the Medici Grand Duke and considered the very heart of the original museum, as well as the amazing ceiling decorations on the top floor.

On top of all this, the Gallery offers outstanding and unique views of the city of Florence.

N.B. The Uffizi Gallery is the most visited museum in Florence, so it is important to book entrance tickets well ahead of your visit.
