The Accademia Gallery

Dansk guide i Firenze > Risultato della ricerca

The Accademia Gallery is the museum housing Michelangelo’s original David statue, considered to be one of the most beautiful sculptures ever made. David is surrounded by other marble statues by the great Master: the 4 Slaves, Saint Matthew and The Pietà Palestrina, which all together form the biggest collection of works by Michelangelo in the world.

A visit to this museum allows you not only to admire Michelangelo’s marble colossus up close, but also to enter the world of this fabulous artist, to understand his philosophy and how it influenced his working methods.

Besides these outstanding sculptures, the museum also holds an important collection of paintings, dating from the 13th to the 16th century, and a small jewel: The Museum of Musical Instruments which contains the Medici family’s collection, including the only Stradivarius in the world entirely conserved in its original state.

The Nineteenth Century Room is gathering the original plaster casts by 19th century’s artists Lorenzo Bartolini and Luigi Pampaloni. The marble sculptures, based on these casts, are spread out among the most well known museums of the world.

N.B. The Accademia Gallery is one of the most visited museums in Florence, so it is important to book entrance tickets well ahead of your visit.
